Germany denies bribe World Cup 2006

The German Football Association (DFB) has denied allegations of secret funds paid to the members of FIFA for choosing Germany as the host of the 2006 World Cup.



Rebuttal was made after the weekly magazine Der Spiegel ran an article that mentions that the DFB collect secret fund of 6.7 million euros from the former boss of Adidas, Robert Louis-Dreyfuss.

"The DFB has denied the allegations unfounded that the association has paid illicit funds in connection with the World Cup in 2006. The association also disputed the conclusions are unfounded as a whole that the funds are used to buy votes in exchange for the World Cup," said DFB.

Disclaimer also declared FIFA. "These are very serious allegations which will be reviewed as part of an independent internal investigation which is now undertaken under the FIFA legal director with consulting assistance from outside."

When applying to host the 2006 World Cup, Germany fought a number of countries. In the final stage, Germany dealing with South Africa by voting. As a result, Germany won 12 votes ahead one voice alias.

In its report, the magazine Der Spiegel that it has achieved thanks to money from Dreyfus. After the implementation, according to Der Spiegel, the DFB return the money by way of sending it first to a FIFA account in Geneva, Switzerland. From the accounts of FIFA, the money was transferred again to the account of Dreyfus in Zurich, Switzerland.

Der Spiegel claimed the Chairman of the 2006 World Cup Organising Committee, Franz Beckenbauer, and Chairman of the DFB, Wolfgang Niersbach, sebenarya know the origin of these funds.

However DFB was again denied. Beckenbauer and Niersbach, according to the DFB, 'not involved in such transactions or know anything like that'.

Furthermore, the DFB said it would take legal action against Der Spiegel.

Both Beckenbauer and Niersbach has not responded to the accusations personally. The Dreyfus has died 2009. (bbc)
