The Martian, chances of life on Mars

Mars into an object that never runs researchers explored. Various possibilities to explore opportunities in the Red Planet's life continues to be extracted. Can humans survive in the thin atmosphere are celestial bodies is?

Planet entered the ranks of the planets, Earth's closest neighbor, create curiosity. Satellite images uploaded Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) recently revealed the existence of traces of water on Mars.
Results of analysis of the camera image taken of spacecraft Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, describes the layers of salt water in some places. Scientists do not yet know with certainty the source of the water. The water could have come from the ice below the surface, a source of salt water in the aquifer layer, or is the result of condensation of the thin Martian atmosphere.

The findings open a new chapter that Mars is not a barren planet, as assumed so far. With temperatures below zero degrees Celsius, still studied how water can flow on the surface of Mars.

Search for answers, whether humans are able to survive on Mars evocative Ridley Scott (77) to transmit his vision into a movie, The Martian. With Mars as the center of the story, Ridley reveal the idea that man turned out to have a chance to survive on Mars.

British director puts the figure of Mark Whatney (Matt Damon) as Martian NASA scientists, called for imaginative people who live in Mars. This designation comes as Mars believed would be the next planet after Earth to be habitable humans.

The Martian talking about the opportunity. As a botanist who join spacecraft mission, Ares III, Whatney accidentally stranded on Mars. Whatney and five of his associates planned to examine Mars for 31 soles or approximately 32 days time on Earth.

During that time, they lived in habitat or HAB, a sort of dome-tech buildings are made to fit the human habitat on Earth, including reserves of oxygen and pressure adjustment.

Disaster occurred on sol 18 when a severe storm struck Mars, making the crew who were investigating subsoil on Mars topsy-turvy. Mark slammed the storm and lost. Melissa Lewis (Jessica Chastain), Commander Ares III, thought Whatney killed and ordered his crew to get back to Earth. Whatney who woke up from fainting, found himself badly injured and alone on Mars.

Hugging death

Ridley illustrates how humans react in a crisis situation which exposes himself to death. There is no option other than death if you fall behind on Mars. This planet has the air temperature extremes, between minus 153 degrees to 22 degrees celsius in the summer. To breathe on Mars is of course impossible because 95 percent of the Martian air contains carbon dioxide.

Whatney choose to accept death. The worst case scenario is no mission sent to Mars to pick him home. He must find a way to communicate to Earth with the rest of the existing communications equipment.

By embracing death, Whatney trying to survive with a supply of food and oxygen reserve which was originally for six crew Ares III. He rationed food and hope to survive for 400 soles, or more than 400 days (one year) on Mars.

Knowledge in the field of botany and chemistry make Whatney able to extend longer life expectancy. He tried to plant potatoes in the Martian soil that does not have the bacteria. In fact, the bacteria are needed so that plants can grow. He makes manure astronauts in HAB and making various chemical reactions to create the water to water the plants.

Whatney potato fields flourish in the HAB. However, an accident shattered HAB and destroy his trouble. How long he could survive? Rescue mission from Earth takes nine months to travel from Earth orbit to orbit Mars.

Story The Martian worked on the science fiction novel Andy Weir (2011). This novel-length movies tilled into by 20th Century Fox who initially took Drew Goddard as a screenwriter and director. However, because in the hands of Goddard, the film is not finished, and finally transferred to Radley.

As written in the New York Times, Radley already know that there is water on Mars before NASA officially announced their findings to the public. Radley had seen photographs of NASA about the findings of the water, but unfortunately when the screenplay was completed tilled.

In the hands of Radley, The Martian feels light as he slid humor here and there. With humor, science fiction movie is loaded with scientific terms was not heavy.

"I like the humor, not just from the character Mark, but also humor thrown Ares III other crew," Damon said, as quoted in the press release of 20th Century Fox. Science fiction films, said Damon, rarely slipped humor that feel tight and heavy.

Radley bring Martian landscape of Korda Studios Soundstage in Budapest, Hungary. Korda Studios is the largest film studio in the world.

Initially they took pictures in the Outback, Australia, for the Martian landscape, but the weather made the move Radley shooting indoors Korda Studio. He also took pictures of landscape of Wadi Rum, Jordan, to be moved into the Martian landscape through computer technology.
